Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024He entered the National Theatre School of Denmark at the age of 27. He graduated in 1995. Apart from his performance in the drama series The Killing and the film, he was also a part of Borgen III, a Danish drama series. He also had a leading part in an episode of the BBC drama Sherlock as the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American TV show House of Cards, he played the president of Russia. He won an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his part in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje, which was broadcast in the UK in 2019 under the name Ride upon the Storm.In addition to his mother tongue Danish, Mikkelsen speaks fluent Swedish, German and English as well as mastering different accents. According to Mikkelsen's account the actor was taught English from his older brother by watching Monty Python recordings and watching the comedy sketches.
